Will my Internet connection be guaranteed?

Yes and no. We can assure the uptime and reliability of our own servers and operations center.

However, OCS has no control over the modem in your computer, or the quality of your local phone or cable lines, or your local ISP, or the worldwide network of Internet connections that ultimately tie your computer to our system.

The good news is that the overall Internet system works incredibly well. However, there may be times when you just can't get through.

In some cases congestion is the problem. Like freeways at rush hour or trying to call home on Mother's Day, performance over the Internet can become sluggish at times. Our servers run at constant speeds under all anticipated loads - our end won't slow down at different times of the day, but users' perception of speed may vary according to variable conditions on the Internet itself.

In other cases there may be an actual outage somewhere along the "data highways" that connect one location with another. If something like this occurs at a major hub it can disrupt service. We don't see this kind of thing very often, but with our experience over 14 years as a regional ISP we know it is certainly possible.

In a case like this our technicians are usually among the first to become aware of the problem, which we then bring to the attention of technicians at the source and determine their estimated time to return of service. This is something like a city power outage, a central phone system problem, or a cable TV blackout. None of them happen often in the "big picture" of things, but they're generally outside our control when they do occur.
